The Question “What Is The Purpose Of Life” Has Been Retired

Talking to a friend the other day brought me a sense of closure on the question of “the purpose of life”.

When we pose the question to ourselves, it puts us in the precarious position of knowing the answer at the same time. But we don’t know the answer. Then who else are we posing the question to? Life?

Okay, let’s ask life then.

“What is the purpose of you”?

Ah there’s an answer! It’s a soul sucking, mind numbing, and ear deafening silence. That’s right, life’s response to any question is met with nothing. Not-a-thing.

So where does that leave us?

It leaves us at the beginning but this time, we know the only purpose of life is the purpose we give it.

We were placed here with the tools necessary to design the life of our dreams and attempt to make it happen. There is no hidden purpose except for the one we uncover by utilizing our built in strengths, interests, and desires. But this is to be engaged with through taking action.

Most people go about their lives trying to think through their purpose. While this could happen, in my experience, it’s best to work on a purpose.

For instance, when I started writing I never dreamt that a good portion of my life purpose could be tied into it. I kind’ve dabbled here and there because it was an enjoyable habit to build; especially when you don’t put pressure on yourself in the beginning.

But now, I find that I enjoy writing more and more each day I choose to do so. Therefore, I see myself including writing everyday as part of my life purpose towards expressing myself while helping others with other strengths that lie within.

So to me, the question of “the purpose of life” is a moot deal. The purpose we have is the one we choose to have.

Creating a purpose is easier said than done but when you do, you become unstoppable. Life works in mysterious ways to help you achieve it.

Here’s to putting the power of purpose back in your hands.
