Colorado cities have always had a lot to offer for music fans, and Fort Collins is no exception. With the creation of The Music District in 2016 as a hub for local musicians, as well as the upcoming re-opening of Washington’s as a concert venue, it’s clear that the music scene in Fort Collins is thriving. For those new to the city, or those who haven’t had a chance to explore the town’s vibrant music scene, here are five of the best music venues in and around Fort Collins.

1. Aggie Theatre

The Aggie is a classic Fort Collins spot. The building has been around since 1906 and after stints as a furniture store and a movie theater, started hosting concerts in the late 1990s. The 650-person capacity venue usually pulls in the larger national touring acts, and in the last year has featured shows from Atmosphere, STRFKR, Fishbone, and Lil Uzi Vert among others. Be sure to stay hydrated, people pack in tight at this venue and it’s bound to get more than a little hot.

2. Hodi’s Half Note

Hodi’s Half Note is a bar in the middle of Old Town that offers a wide variety of entertainment. From weekly open mic nights to comedy shows to punk rock bands from across the country, Hodi’s has something for everyone. Though if you’re going for the latter, don’t forget earplugs. It gets loud.

3. Downtown Artery

Formerly a small art gallery on the west end of Old Town, the Downtown Artery has transformed into a hub for artists of all talents. The gallery is still there, alongside a full cafe and a stage for concerts. Local bands feature prominently at this venue, but the Artery offers plenty of other experiences including karaoke, dance workshops, and a monthly “Art Night”, open for anyone to come and express themselves.

4. Avogadro’s Number

A music venue, a restaurant, and a bar all in one, Avogadro’s Number is a great place to spend an evening (and the following morning, when you inevitably come back for their amazing brunch). Jazz and bluegrass artists highlight the variety of acts found at this venue, which has both an indoor and an outdoor stage. The food and atmosphere can’t be beat.

5. Mishawaka Amphitheater

It’s about 20 minutes up the Poudre Canyon, but the Mishawaka is still a venue that everyone who lives in Fort Collins needs to experience. The venue discourages parking on site since space is so limited, so most people take a shuttle that conveniently runs from CSU to the front gates. The Mishawaka is tucked away in a mountain right next to the Poudre River, and rivals Red Rocks as a premiere spot for outdoor concerts in the country.
