For college students, budgeting and finding ways to spend your hard earned cash in the most efficient and cheap way is no easy task! This list is for those out there who have been eating the same Easy-Mac for the last three nights straight, to let them know there is still hope out there when it comes to dinner time.

1. Do yourself a FAVOR and open up a rewards card

If you’re living in Colorado you’ve heard of King Soopers, and if you have heard of King Soopers you should definitely have their SooperCard! The SooperCard is basically the key that unlocks everything there is to do with saving money at King Soopers. It’s free to sign up for one and its the only way to get those low, low sale prices in the store! Have a Safeway near you as well? Well you’re also in luck because it’s pretty much the same program, scan the their card right at the checkout and you’re on your way to some instant savings you wouldn’t have had before!

2. Your card can be used for more than just groceries… GAS!!

You read that right! Your card can be used not only to stop the munchies but also to get you to and from the store with both King Soopers and Safeway’s gas rewards programs! Drivers can save up to $1 per gallon total. But how does it work? Both Safeway and King Soopers work on a point system:

  • Every $1 spent on groceries
    equals 1 point
  • Every $1 spent on qualifying
    gift cards equals 2 points
  • Every $1 spent on pharmacy
    items equals 1 point

Every 100 Points earned equals 10¢ per/gal of gas savings.

3. Did you know Target has an app JUST for coupons?!?

Well, now you do! Originally it’s own app created by Target called Cartwheel, the coupons are now included in Target’s main app and is extremely easy to use! All a person has to do is browse the offers, add them to a list, and then show the cashier a barcode or scan it at self-checkout and you’re all set to save. The app even customizes offers to your preferences!

4. Download Walmart’s app and use Savings Catcher

Newly announced to release Feb. 1 2018, Walmart’s Savings Catcher program is an easy way to save money on items you are already shopping for! The way it works is that the customer scans their receipt through the Walmart app., Walmart compares prices with top competitors in the area for the items you bought, if a lower price is found you’ll get the difference in the form of a Walmart gift card! Not only is this program useful with groceries but basically anything a person could need at Walmart!
