The piano is an interesting instrumrent. By the pressing of a key, a sound is produced, and as any regularly developed human has 10 fingers, and as any regularly developed piano has 88 keys, the possibilities for music are endless.

The flow of Merrill’s songs put a satisfying feeling to what modern solitude can mean for any individual. From beginning to end, one can hear and feel the power each song is urging us to aknowledge.

Merrill began his piano career young, beginning to play around as a young boy when he lived in Kenya. Once his family decided to move back home to the U.S., he decided to start taking lessons. Each year he grew stronger as a pianist. All the practice and struggle was leading up to this, Modern Solitude, his debut album. Released in late 2017, Merrill has stretched out from playing in top notch clubs, to the recording studio.

In this interview, Merrill talks about his struggles growing up playing the piano and how it developed him into who he is today. An infectious and eager young man, Benjamin Merrill believes we are on this earth for a reason, I believe his reason is playing the piano.
