Just like any outdoor activity, riding a horse requires certain attire to keep riders safe and successful. There is no need to worry about show clothes or fancy boots as a beginner. In fact, riding clothes can be very easy to find, but knowing what is safe and comfortable in the saddle can be a daunting task for first-time riders.

Safety should always be on a rider’s mind when they dress for a lesson. For more tips on safe riding clothes, whether for arena riding, on a trail, or simply on the ground near horses, visit Horse University’s page. Click through the infographic below to find safety and comfort tips while riding, and for links to local Fort Collins outfitters.

Along with your riding clothes, be sure to bring a water bottle and light snack to your first lesson. You may be burning more calories than you anticipated. As you become more familiar with your horse and riding style, and become more comfortable in the saddle, invest in clothing that better fits your goals. Browse through Smarkpak’s Apparel categories to see what is available, find styles you like, and estimate prices. If you keep investing in riding lessons, you might even buy your own show clothes in the future.
