Fort Collins is known as being a populous, up-and-coming city, one with an appreciation for music and art for rising stars. However, there are not as many events or places to attend that revolve around film. While Fort Collins isn’t known as being much of an environment that supports the cinematic arts, here is a list of six of the city’s best spots to visit for the movie-junkie that can be overlooked.

  1. Cinemark

The Cinemark theater is a stop for the whole family. As a business chain, this movie theater has a larger quality to it with several recently released movies to choose from, both for children and adults. Not to mention the standard popcorn and refreshments counter with a variety of classic food options to choose from. If you want a big movie experience, this is the place to go!

2. Cinema Saver 6- AMC

Outside of Cinema Saver 6

As another chain theater location, Cinema Saver 6 is definitely targeted for the college crowd. It has less seating and a smaller auditorium, making the audience interaction during the film a blast. With inexpensive tickets to newly released films, this is definitely the place to go with a group of your friends to enjoy a cheap movie, cheap popcorn and refreshments, and play a couple video games while you wait in line!

3. Lyric Cinema Cafe

During the day before the night crowds flock in.

On the edge of Old Town sits this lively, college-friendly and small theater. With only two screens, it’s definitely for smaller crowds and aims to create community among Fort Collins residents. The casual attitude keeps you coming back not just for the movies, but for the people as well. It’s a great place to hang out, order some fun, organic food, and relax. You can often hear the energy of this place from streets away. If you’re looking for independent films that are not released on the big screen, you’ve found your match… they even have free cartoon showings every Saturday!

4. Holiday Twin Drive-In Theater

As one of the last drive-in theaters left in Colorado, The Holiday Twin theater certainly has a history and a personality. With concession cartoon commercials from the 1950s that are shown just before the movie starts, this theater has naturally held onto it’s roots from way back when. It’s a great place to get with a group of friends in the back of a truck and enjoy a movie with the stars right above your head and feel that cool summer breeze.

5. Aggie Theater

Located right on College Avenue at the entrance of Old Town, this small and quaint theater is another place to visit for not the cinematic-minded folk. Although it’s main focus is now music and concerts, this retired movie theater still occasionally has movie nights to remind us all of where it came from. Take advantage of those rare opportunities and note the history embedded in the walls of the theater, it doesn’t happen often!

6. At-Home Theater

And then, of course, how could we forget about the at-home theater? Perfect for lazy days, and the bonus is that there is no date required! You can find this cinema in the TV room or bedroom, located in the comfort of your own home/dorm. With a warm cup of coco, this may in-fact, be the best place to chill in your pajamas and just take some time for yourself while enjoying your favorite moving picture.
