Who is Mr. Crumbs?
There’s not many artists whose name makes your stomach growl just a tad. Steven Hernlund, also known as Mr. Crumbs, creates art masterpieces that make your eyes beg for more. His visual feasts are dripping in color and acrylic texture, making him one of Fort Collins best live artists around. “Out there” may be an understatement for his artwork, but his talent is beyond what this world can comprehend.
His paintings frequently unravel psychedelic landscapes, constructed with abstract designs to keep the viewer’s eye flowing across the canvas. Although his pieces are abstract in design, the scenic elements are completely realistic. Pristine streams flow through colorful valleys while a starry night sky above is splattered to perfection. Cool caves almost consume the viewer into the stalagmite wonderland.
However, among realistic nature scenes are geometric designs within the details. Three eyed monsters may be floating in the air with mischief among their face, or oozing blobs of unknown matter will mask the sky like clouds. You’d almost think he was abducted by aliens to gain his inspiration.

Mr. Crumbs is a live artist who performs at events all throughout Fort Collins, Colorado. He has made local music venues like Aggie Theatre, Hodi’s Half Note, and Avogadro’s Number part of his studio. He sits at the back of the crowd making paintings inspired by the sounds and lights of each show. Bystanders can watch as his process go down while bass rings throughout the venue.
Hernlund has also participated in an event through Art Lab called CAVA & Shamanic Boom. CAVA stands for the Colorado Alliance of Visual Artists, which has brought artists similar to him together in a spiritual demonstration. His artwork has also been displayed at the Colorado Room and other galleries in Fort Collins.
