With tuition, text books and housing costs emptying out college students’ bank accounts, finding affordable recreational activities can sometimes be a hassle. One of the most popular recreational activities for students are music events and concerts, but the cost of many of these events can sometimes be too much. Luckily, Fort Collins has many upcoming music events for those on a budget. Here are my top choices:

  1. FORToberfest

When: September 17, 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Where: Old Town Square in Downtown Fort Collins

Cost: Free!

With Fall just around the corner, Fort Collins will hold its last outdoor music festival in Old Town. FORToberfest will feature live music from bands such as The 14ers, the Taylor Scott Band, Wasteland Hop and many more. Along with live music, seasonal, local craft beers will be offered for those who want to celebrate the last breeze of summer.

Featuring one of Fort Collins’ most unique music venues, The Artery, an art gallery/bar, will host this immersive event. 4. The Unlikely Candidates

When: September 29, 8 p.m.

Where: Hodi’s Half Note

Cost: $10 Advance, $15 Door

This indie rock band from Fort Worth, Texas gained popularity after releasing their single “Follow My Feet.” With a sound reminiscent of Mumford & Sons meets Panic! At the Disco, frontman Kyle Morris’ edgy vocals against the band’s fast-paced instrumentation provides a unique take towards rock that includes a bit of country and folk.
