Old Town offers affordable shopping
Fort Collins is known for many things, beer, biking, and Colorado State University. When thinking about Fort Collins, not many think about the different shopping opportunities it offers. Not only does it house chain retail stores, but local businesses as well. Those local businesses range from thrift shops to family owned boutiques exclusively found in Old Town, Fort Collins.
In my opinion Fort Collins has some of the best places to shop while on a college budget. Not only are the thrift stores affordable, but so are the local boutiques and stores. When I think about shopping on a budget, two places come to mind, Brand Spanking Used Thrift Store and Kansas City Kitty.
Brand Spanking Used Thrift Store is a thrift shop like no other. It allows anyone on a budget to shop for multiple items without breaking the bank. Located right on the main strip of Old Town, Brand Spanking Used cannot be missed. The store has so many eclectic items that once inside, you cannot leave without purchasing one or two or three items. One reviewer on yelp named Sarah C. said, “This is definitely my favorite thrift store in Fort Collins. They have a very neat and well organized layout.” Not all feel that Brand Spanking Used is the place to shop. Some individuals are turned off by the fact that someone else once owned everything in the store. Those individuals however are not usually the ones to be shopping on a budget or in a thrift store for that matter. All in all if you are looking for a deal and are low on funds, Brand Spanking Used Thrift Store is the way to go.
Kansas City Kitty is on the pricier side of stores in Fort Collins, but it is definitely worth the trip inside. It has the feels of a boutique and the clothing is sure to never disappoint. Never empty inside, Kansas City Kitty offers popular clothing, but also clothing that is exclusive to the store itself. The jewelry is from local artists and allows shoppers to support Fort Collins residents, instead of big retail chains. The clothing ranges on the pricier side, but there is always a sales rack with options everyone can enjoy. Some of the jewelry sold inside is from local Fort Collins artists, which is a nice change from big retailers. One yelp reviewer, Alisha L., said, “Everyone in the store is genuine and welcoming-they’re never pushy! I’ve been shopping there for a couple years now and still wear all of my purchases, the clothing and accessories are top quality.” On the other hand, not everyone feels the way Alisha does, Laura C. wrote, “Not a good place to buy a gift-even if they have the tags on the clothes you can’t return them. So if your not sure you want to keep the clothes probably not a place you’d like to buy things.” In the end I would recommend Kansas City Kitty, there customer service is not only great, but their clothing is affordable.
As far as college towns go and wanting to shop on a budget, Fort Collins is one of the best ones out there. Not only can one find affordable clothing but they can stop by the many breweries, bike shops, restaurants. The shopping is unbeatable for a college student on a budget and the window shopping never disappoints. So if you have some free time on your hands and are looking to buy some clothes, head on down to Old Town and step inside Brand Spanking Used Thrift Store and Kansas City Kitty. You will not be disappointed you went.
