The 10 Coffee Shops to Study at in “Old Town” Fort Collins, Colorado

It’s that time of the year again: test season. Midterms and finals are slowly approaching, which means the hunt to find the perfect study spot has arrived. Here are the top 10 coffee shops in Old Town that are the ideal place to set up camp and study at.

1. The Bean Cycle

The Bean Cycle is a great place to go if you enjoy a loud and friendly environment. The aroma of coffee make it relaxing, which makes for a good place to sit down and crank out some studying. The coffee shop even has a cozy loft with lots of books to read; in case you need another excuse to procrastinate on some homework.

2. Mugs Coffee Lounge (at the oval)

Mugs is a personal favorite and the closest coffee shop to campus. Unfortunately this means it is always packed, with limited seating, but if you don’t mind getting cozy to the person next to you the atmosphere is great and the coffee is even better. The shop is right across from The Oval on campus, which makes it convenient and close for those short study breaks between classes.

3. Alleycat Coffee House

If you are a night owl this is the place for you. The Alleycat is open 24 hours (seven days a week) and is always crowded with people. The music is always on point and enjoyable as the baristas who are working get to choose the playlists of their liking. The paintings done by local Fort Collins artists on the wall and ceiling make it feel like a place you want to stay at for hours. This is the type of coffee shop for studiers who like loud people and music playing in the background.

4. Mugs Coffee Lounge (downtown)

The Mugs in Old Town has a nice college vibe to it. It’s comfortable and welcoming. There is a lot of seating upstairs and downstairs and is a prime location for people watching. The music playing has an alternative modern vibe to it, which makes for good background noise.

5. Wild Boar Café

If you are looking for a place to hide in a corner and study, this is it. Wild Boar is always quiet and has many different rooms that cater to big study groups or individuals. There is also plenty of seating outside giving a wide variety of seating options. Wild Boar is a comfortable place that welcomes you to stay for as long as you need.

6. Starry Night Espresso Café

Starry Night is a relaxing place to be at. It is a small coffee shop that caters to people who are looking for more of a conversational atmosphere rather than studying for hours on end. This is the place to come meet up with a study group.

7. The Crooked Cup

The Crooked Cup is a cool place but out of the way. Which also is the reason why it has unfriendly studying hours for you night owls, as it is only open until 6 p.m. everyday. Despite the hours, this place is comfortable and calm. It is not too crowded and has lots of seating to chose from, which is a plus.

8. Starbucks

Everybody loves Starbucks; there is no secret about that. When in doubt, study at Starbucks.

9. Everyday Joe’s Coffee House

Everyday Joe’s is a non-profit coffee shop that is run by volunteers of the Timberline Old Town Church. This place is great for events and has a loud and welcoming environment that makes its purpose to cater to the public. It’s comfortable and has cheap coffee too, what else could you ask for?

10. Harbinger Coffee

Just below the Max Flats sits Harbinger Coffee. This place seems almost too nice as it has very white furniture and surroundings. The shop is filled with mostly people who live in the apartments above and always seems to be crowded. It is a little out of the way from campus, but if you live here it is a great spot to study at considering you do not have to walk far. The coffee is also good too.

Now, quit reading and go be productive with that warm cup of coffee.
