‘Welcome to Colorful Colorado’ says the Colorado border sign at each border Colorado shares. Coloradans are a special breed of humans. They do weird things, eat weird things and definitely make some weird things. What Coloradans seem to care about most is the precious Rocky Mountains, good music and healthy cuisine. Now, let’s get into these three Fort Collins based businesses that are doing what coloradans love to do most; reuse, recycle and share ideas.

3. The Downtown Artery

The Downtown Artery is a multipurpose business that focuses on the importance of musical exploration. The Artery is a safe and passionate place for music, whether that be through live performances or instrumental lessons. They really try to have something for everyone. Currently, there are two separate articles about The Artery closing down the venue. For that reason, and it’s passion to give back to the community through lessons and music, The Downtown Artery slides in at number three. Check out their lineup for the coming months on their website and see what they have for you and your friends before they shut down. The Downtown Artery also is a recording studio. They offer a professional setting for artists of all kinds to come and rent out space to pursue their passions in a community setting. Applications for studio time can be found here.

2. Avogadro’s Number

Colorado is widely known for taking a healthy initiative when it comes to eating and dieting. The vegan, vegetarian, gluten free-like nutritional allergies are being glorified rapidly and the owners of Avogadro’s Number, Rob and Lee, are capitalizing on the wants and needs of the people of Fort Collins. You can view their menu here, but Avogadro’s is changing the game in Fort Collins with their Tempeh. Tempeh is a natural, soy based, alternative that can be prepared in many different ways to achieve being a healthy substitute for protein in a variety of meals. Tuesdays are a particularly busy day for employees. ‘Tempeh Tuesday’ is a longtime favorite for customers because they can buy two tempeh burgers, for the price of one. Avogadro’s Number is the number two business taking good initiative because of their steps to make healthy and fun eating a little cheaper. The bar, restaurant and music venue is located at 605 S Mason Street.

1. The Colorado Room

Coming in at the number one spot is The Colorado Room. The Colorado native, local owners, Danny and Justin, are striving to create an environment that feels, and smells, like the things that Coloradans love most. The business sells food and alcohol, as well as locally made goods and gifts. Their tables are made from recycled wood from the infamous beetle kill in the Rocky Mountains. The Colorado Room hosts live music and a comedy stage in the back. The New Scene, a news outlet for the northern front range, awarded them “Best Unique Sandwiches,” in northern Colorado. Danny and Justin feel connected to Fort Collins so they donate a percentage of their profits to charities that fund their community. The Colorado Room is located at 642 S. College Avenue, right in the heart of ‘University Fort Collins’ as I like to call it.
