For many people, it is easy to grab a bite to eat just about anywhere. A giant slice of pizza from Cosmo’s at 2 a.m; a Chipotle burrito after school, and a beer-rita from Fuzzy’s for happy hour. However, for gluten free individuals it is not so easy. Even if some restaurants offer a gluten free option, sometimes it just means a bun-less burger or a salad. But for those who are gluten free like me and love food just as much as anyone else, there are a few places that make gluten free no less of an experience.

1. Rainbow Restaurant

Located on Laurel, lies a somewhat 70’s inspired eatery. They offer tons of food that is unique such as a sweet potato burrito and sweet potato latkes (my absolute favorite). They accommodate for many needs such as vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free. They provide perfect portion sizes and you always leave satisfied. Why it is number one is because gluten free diners can go with non- gluten free friends and family without it seeming too isolated. There is something for everyone at Rainbow Restaurant.

2. Scrumpy’s

Fort Collins is a town that revolves around beer. The fact that CSU offers a fermentation major proves that craft brewing and brewery tours are a popular sensation. However, not everyone can attend the beer-centered activities if they are gluten free. Scrumpy’s, a cidery located on Old Town, offers not only gluten free alcoholic beverages, but also gluten free food. The sandwiches are popular among gluten free diners as well as different flights of ciders. What makes Scrumpy’s number two on the list is the location and the fact that people don’t have to be gluten free to enjoy this delicious cider.

3. Mainline

For a night out with friends and family, Mainline is the perfect place to get dressed up and have a nice dinner. Although many nice restaurants can have GF substitutions, Mainline has a large variety of options. This restaurant is perfect for birthday parties and dates because the atmosphere is ideal for an evening on the weekend. It is energetic while maintaining a comfortable and authentic vibe. The menu makes it incredibly easy to find which are GF options, so you don’t have to ask your waiter multiple times what contains gluten.

4. Big Al’s Burgers and Dogs

Although it isn’t as fancy as the one above, sometimes you just want a good, filling, quick, gluten free burger. Big Al’s has the option of a gluten free bun, which may sound standard, but at a lot of other burger joints, their substitution is merely a burger wrapped in lettuce. Although it is gluten free, it isn’t the satisfying and easy to eat burger you were dreaming of, but more like a salad. Big Al’s offers thick and fluffy burger buns that taste the same-if not better- than normal buns. And they even have guac.

5. Jaws Sushi

Most sushi restaurants offer gluten free rolls, but Jaws has a great location and delicious rolls. Jaws has all of the traditional rolls plus some wacky ones with unique names like the “OG Kim K role (pre-Kanye)”. With plenty of roles, sashimi, and apps, you’re sure to find a gluten free option and be ordering a Salmon L. Jackson Roll before you know it.
