Three Reasons Why Streaming is flat out better than cable and cinema

Movie going is a favorite pastime of mine. My first moviegoing experience as a wee Texan kindergartener was Pokemon: The First Movie. You could not tell me this wasn’t hyped up big time for Millennials back then.

I remember sweating my ass off with the heat coming from the other kids and parents who packed the theater that day. The smell of butter and carbonated beverages permeated the room. That sweet, holographic Mew card hidden within the confides of those plastic Pokemon card packets given to kids for forcing their parents to buying tickets (spoiler alert: Mew was in mine).

Taste in movie consumption has changed since then. With the onset of new technology, streaming has taken the center stage in capturing the attention of a lot of people.

Here are three facts on why streaming is now just flat out better than cable and cinema

  1. Convenience: There is no doubt I’ll forget the movie going experience I had when I was a kid. With streaming, I can have my popcorn and eat it too without the need to refill and miss out on the action. I can binge watch shows like ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘The Office’ on my time, without having to wait on Cable to update with new episodes (unless we’re talking about live TV, which I’ll cover later). https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewarnold/2017/10/26/millennials-love-streaming-but-arent-ready-to-dump-cinema-just-yet/#5b489a1e6311

2. Cost: Sure, there are blockbusters that get butts into seats, like Black Panther and The Conjuring series (not including spinoffs). But these big movie hits are spread out within a calendar year. Movies that are successful at getting people to buy tickets at Cinemark don’t appear often. In fact, it takes years of development crunch time before the next cinematic blockbuster graces audiences and movie theaters. Also, it’s extremely ridiculous how the prices for movie tickets aren’t specifically listed on movie websites. If I must do more work to find the price of a movie on Thursday, something is wrong. https://www.cinemark.com/theatre-search

3. Cable is catching on: If you remember the shouts atop the hills of “streaming is going to kill cable!” Well, don’t sound the alarm just yet. While becoming less popular than Netflix and chill, cable has seen a decrease in the number of customers signing up for accounts and services. However, cable networks like HBO and Showtime are changing the game for cable by adding streaming library apps to their offered content. You don’t even need a subscription to HBO to use HBO Now, at the cost of $14.99 a month. https://www.bankrate.com/personal-finance/smart-money/cost-of-cable-tv-vs-internet-streaming/

Cable is assimilating with streaming to remain relevant. When one giant tries to piggyback off another, that’s when you know someone is doing something right.
