Grab your helmet, walking shoes or keys and be ready to crush getting around town. Want to grab a drink and need to get home safely? No worries, Transfort, Uber and other rideshares have you covered. As a platinum bike friendly city and bronze level walking community, the Fort Collins trails system is a great way to get a little lost in nature or get you to your next destination. Need to get somewhere fast? Drive your car, that’s what they are made for. With parking throughout the town and options for garages, parking lots and side streets in Old Town , your car can get you across town in no time.

As of 2017, Fort Collins was given platinum status as a bicycle friendly community by meeting the 10 building blocks of a bike friendly community. Because of this, biking around Fort Collins is the top way to get around. There are bike shops throughout the city and roads are continually being updated to be more bike friendly. This includes additions of bike boxes to help cars and bikes share the road easily and safely.

Do you take biking to the next level? The City of Fort Collins recently deployed a new E-Bike program that allows class one and two e-bikes on paved trails.

2. Take the Bus

If you need to get around town, or to Boulder and back, the Fort Collins bus system can take you there. According to RideTransFort, there are over 500 bus stops servicing more than 20 routes. Tickets are a standard $1.25 for one way, with free transfers if your route takes you further. In 2018, the Fort Collins year in review reported, 44 percent of Transfort riders are students, 47 percent are employed, 56 percent age 18–25, and 62 percent of those ride 5+ days a week. Fort Collins has been named a Bronze Level Walk Friendly Community, one of 33 cities with this title at the time. Through extensive trails and accessibility, putting on a pair of walking shoes is a great way to get some fresh air, exercise or to your next destination.

Driving options are available to everyone. Parking around town provides many options. There are three main parking garages surrounding Old Town, free two-hour parking lots and side streets, and longer free spaces further down side streets. Driving safety is a priority to the city. They have put actions in place that have brought down severe crashes by 15 percent, bike crashes are down 23 percent, and motorcycle crashes are down 16 percent. Did you and your friends go out for a night of drinking on the town? Consider taking an Uber or Lyft to get home safe, and keep our roads drunk driver free.
