For a 20-year-old in Fort Collins it can be a bit difficult to find bars and pubs that are enjoyable for those who can’t drink. Fort Collins has an amazing selection of beer, but it seems that some pubs forget to freshen up their menu as they do their local beers. This can be a constant struggle for those of us who can’t enjoy the beer scene, but who would still like to go out and spend our precious money. If this is you, try directing your 21-year-old friends to Coopersmith’s Pub and Brewing company. Coopersmith’s is one of the best bars in Fort Collins if you’re looking for something other than a good beer (even though I’ve heard the beer is good too).

When I first walked in I was pleasantly surprised to see how many pool tables there are. This is a great way to scam your slightly tipsy friends out of a few dollars after beating them at pool (that will pay for their sober ride home). Just kidding, but it does provide good entertainment that you can partake in. The atmosphere screams college bar so it gives you the feeling that you’re really participating in the bar scene.

The main reason this pub is such a good place to go when you’re under 21 is that the menu at Coopersmith’s is wonderful. There aren’t many places, especially bars, that have a menu where almost all of the items look delicious. Generally when you go to a bar you see a couple things that look edible and stick to those, but Coopersmith’s menu provides many delicious options. The item I have gone back to time-and-time-again is their shredded pork which is unparalleled. It doesn’t matter what pork dish you get, guaranteed it will be good.

Many tables around us kept getting a mashed potato looking dish. I had to ask what the dish was because it isn’t the prettiest but everyone seemed to be enjoying it. Turns out it was the Highland Cottage Pie which is unique to Coopersmith’s. The pie is essentially a pot pie but with marinated lamb, celery, carrots, onion and mashed potatoes. The pie is then covered in gravy and cheese and served with a side of applesauce, which the waiter swears by.

So don’t suffer as your friends go out on Friday night. Direct your friends to Coopersmith’s for a good beer while you enjoy a plate of mashed potatoes and marinated lamb. You’re almost there!

Also try: The Crown Pub, The Blind Pig and Road34.
