Episode 070: Brilliance In The Cracks

Brian R Brinkman
Beyond The Pond

--

In Episode 070 we assess the third week of Phish’s Summer 2019 Tour. Covering the Bangor and Camden shows, we break down the run into a number of categories, offering our overall thoughts on the tour so far.

In the past week, we’ve gone deeper into the new material, and through it, we’ve seen potential future new directions for the band, while also seeing the challenges this creates from a setlisting standpoint. In addition, we’ve seen the band play an overtly old-school show that felt really special, even if conflicted slightly with the larger goals of the tour. We’re firmly planted in the Northeast for much of the remainder of the tour and are excited to see the directions the band takes their newest material and improvisational approaches as the tour evolves.

Songs featured in this episode are:

Bill Callahan: “747”

75 Dollar Bill: “Every Last Coffee Or Tea”

Matthew “Doc” Dunn: “Lovebeams For T.B.”

Chuck Brown: “The Party Roll”
