As many of you may have noticed, the NBA Summer League is already underway. This is the time for many young players to shine and show their new skills. While some are completely new to the NBA, others are entering their second or third years, which makes the games much more competitive.

Here, we’ll be taking a look at the three biggest standouts of the summer league so far.

1. Keegan Murray

The best player by far in the summer league has been Sacramento Kings’ forward Keegan Murray. In the two games he has played, he has put on a show, averaging 35 points.

Many of you may be wondering why Keegan is even playing if he was already a starter for a playoff team. The reason is because last season he was not able to showcase his full package, and really restricted himself to catch-and-shoot opportunities.

Now, in the Summer League, we can see that Keegan Murray is scoring most of his points as the primary ball handler. This is also shown in the stats, where Keegan has been averaging 13 free-throw attempts per game. To put this into perspective, in the regular season he only averaged one free throw attempt per game!

2. Lester Quinones

Another surprise player who has been balling out has been Golden State Warriors’ guard Lester Quinones. Due to his “shifty” playstyle, many are dubbing him as the next Jordan Poole.

In the two games he’s played in Summer League, Quinones has been by far the Warriors’ best player, averaging 23.5 points. Additionally, most of these points are coming from behind the three-point line, making five threes per game.

But Quinones isn’t just a shooter. He can score in a variety of ways and even has some surprising athleticism. Against the Charlotte Hornets last night, he was even able to put up an exciting poster dunk, shown below.

3. Julian Champagnie

One player that I can’t go without mentioning is San Antonio Spurs’ guard Julian Champagnie. Previously, he was only known by extremely avid NBA fans, but now he’s really starting to make a name for himself.

In the two summer league games that the Spurs have been a part of, Champagnie has averaged 29 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He’s one of those players that can do it all, whether it be shooting, driving, or defense.

He’s made five threes and seven free throws in both of his games, showing how he is really a three-level scorer. Furthermore, despite his high-scoring volume, the efficiency is also there for Champagnie, putting up shooting splits of 46–45–88 (field-goal percentage, three-point percentage, and free-throw percentage).

Those are the biggest NBA Summer League standouts so far. Let me know in the comments your ideas on these players and who you think deserves some more praise. To see more articles just like this, please make sure to check my account linked below.
