‘Cheat at Golf, Cheat at Life’
Or is it the other way around?
As writers on Medium, we abide by specific rules and etiquette, and hope to gain wisdom with each article we encounter.
Life is that way, too.
The first time I played a round of golf in Augusta, Georgia, I was handed a gem of wisdom.
As a career writer, it guides me.
Always.
It has become a treasured gift that continues to grow more special with time. Read between the lines and take heed.
The wisdom imparted here is my gift to you all, or as we say down South, “y’all. All y’all can thank me later!”
Legendary golfer Bobby Jones once proclaimed, “Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots — but you have to play the ball where it lies.”
It is interesting how golf and life overlap in a way that does not seem to occur in most other sports. The ones which employ an army of umpires and referees and replays from numerous angles to get the call right.
Scoring decisions in golf are typically left up to the individual — and, in special cases, referees and rules officials.
