I teed the ball up while glancing at the green. Visualizing my shot, I estimated the distance to be 155 yards. I selected a club and adjusted my glove while praying to the Golf Gods that I didn’t embarrass myself.

Locking in my feet, I took one practice swing and then focused on swing mechanics. After running through a quick checklist, I was ready.

I pulled the club back, winding myself up like a spring, hesitated for a split second, and released my energy.

The club struck the ball with a resounding whack. I finished the swing perfectly, then bent over to pick up my tee.

My teammates started screaming at me, “Look, this is going to be good.” Their cheers and excitement got my attention.

Looking up, I saw the ball land flag high and bounce two times to the right before coming to a rest one inch from the cup.

I had hit a perfect birdie shot that was almost a hole-in-one.

My teammates were amazed and excited. Not only was I the team's rookie D player, but I also hit the shot that won the tournament for us.
