When Things Turned Hostile, I Learned A Valuable Lesson About Second Chances
Baseball, poor sportsmanship, and earning respect
Few things make me more personally uncomfortable than confrontation and poor sportsmanship.
I hate confronting people and will quite often let someone act horrendously towards me, rather than start an argument. When I do stand up for myself, I am left feeling shaken and uncomfortable for days after.
Poor sportsmanship makes me equally upset, leaving me filled with rage and feeling uncomfortable for the people it is directed at.
Last weekend, in my Sunday recreational baseball league, I experienced both in spectacular fashion.
But after weeks of holding it in, when I finally exploded on the offending person, it was not the result I was expecting. He did not react as I was expecting.
Instead, he taught me a lesson about respect and second chances. A lesson I never expected to learn from this man in a million years.
It all began a little over a month ago when our Sunday league started. We operate on a draft format, meaning you can choose your core group of four to five players to stick with each year, but everyone else on your team is new.
