A product thing I’d love to do

Let’s get more POCs represented in our product

Recently I was publishing a story on Medium and searched for an image of a woman as my cover art. Looking through all the results for “woman” I was struck and annoyed by how homogenous the results were.

Women! Sexy, smiling, and usually white.

I’m not the first person by a long shot to point this out. But our integration with Unsplash makes it easy to perpetuate the idea that woman are all white, or that professionals are all suited up, white and skinny.

Collaboration! (And Pulsitos?)

Here are some ideas.

• Integrate with pocstock (h/t Alex V)
• Do our own photo shoot like Refinery29 did (h/t Lauren N)
• Encourage writers to search for people of color and use images of them in stories that aren’t about race.

Just a start, but something I’d love to make happen. 🌈
