White and brown rice are the most famous forms of rice. Brown rice is a whole grain that contains the bran and germ. These provide fiber and several vitamins and minerals. White rice is a refined grain that has had these nutritious parts removed. There has been a lot of debate as to whether brown rice is a healthier option than white rice.

White rice is usually full of unnatural additives. These additives are used because the stripping process removes most of the iron, vitamins, zinc and magnesium from the rice.

There is a lot of difference between these two types of rice, & brown rice is often the healthier choice because –

  1. Brown rice promote weight loss

It is a filling food i.e. a bowl of rice will make you feel satiated for a long period of time. It is also rich in dietary fiber which helps in the bowel movements and digestive process. It also promotes metabolic function.

2. Controls Blood sugar level

Brown rice releases sugar slowly and in a sustained fashion. It is a very healthy option for diabetic patients. Also, white rice has been linked with promoting type 2 diabetes.

3. Rich in selenium

Brown rice is very rich in selenium. It is an all-important trace mineral which helps to prevent our body against various illness.

4. It is a whole grain

Studies show that six servings of whole grains weekly can lower the creation of arterial plaque build-up and reduce chances of developing heart disease and high cholesterol.

To make white rice, outside hull and bran are removed from brown rice. It makes rice lighter and faster to cook.

Making the switch from white rice to brown rice is a great first step to a healthy diet as it is the best choice in terms of nutritional quality and health benefits.
