During price drops, we tend to overbuy. We stock up on daily essentials. It may be good for non-perishables, but perishable items like fresh fruits and vegetables tend to go bad if not consumed. We have already discussed ‘Shelf life of foods’ earlier. Fresh fruits tend to go bad if not consumed and start showing signs of spoilage. The shelf life of fresh food depends on season & storage environment.

According to a 2007 study conducted at the University of Innsbruck in Austria, the number of antioxidants in fruits grows as they get closer to spoiling.

So it is worth noting that overripe fruits are worth keeping rather than throwing them out. There are different ways to use up these fruits.

  1. Smoothies

Overripe or little-spoiled fruits can be used to make smoothies. They are not only great in taste but also offer many health benefits. So throw these fruits in a jar and mix them up.

2. Freeze them

Freezing fruit stops it from ripening anymore and provides a great base for making smoothies or popsicles. Fruits can always be frozen for later use.

3. Natural face pack

Mix fruits with ingredients like oatmeal, honey, egg yolks, avocado, and milk to create facial masks that will work wonders for your skin.

4. Fertilizer

Rotting fruit provides lots of important nutrients for plants, so mix it with the soil for a less stinky fertilizer. This will not only save you money but you can also decrease your garbage by 25%. To make fertilizers from fruits, click this link.

No matter what you do with these fruits, it is always better than throwing them out. Even if the fruit has gone bad, it is still good.
