How Life Controls You by Overloading You with Variables
Just like a math equation has constants and variables, life’s equation also has constants and variables. We have seen how choosing the right constants in life make us more fulfilled. Now let us see how adding variables makes it more complicated.
In school’s math, the more constants there were, the easier it was to solve the equation and the difficulty increased with addition of each variable. The same applies for equation of life too.
Here are some of the major variables in anyone’s life:
- Time
- Money
- Relationships
- Health
- Business / Career
- Time
People say time is Money. But, time is Energy.
When some one says, “I don’t have time for it” they mean they do not want to spend their energy on it.
Now a days, a lot of time and energy are spent on unimportant and trivial things. For example, binge watching, shopping, doom scrolling, over thinking..
Time management Or Energy management can do wonders to our lives making them go in the right direction. Time can only be spent in 3 ways. I will write about it in the future posts.
Once we identify the leaks in our daily time and energies, we can effectively buy time from ourselves for better utilization.
- Money
A huge variable in everyone’s life. A bad decision with money can send you back ages taking most of your life to only recover back to where you were. There are many sub-variables under Money like Investments, Wealth, Debt, Retirement, Expenses etc..
The interesting part about this variable money is that with money, you can buy a constant. Meaning, you can buy real estate, which is a constant with money variable (especially when you are young, newly married, bought your own house). So it is critical variable that we need to take control of.
Very few people in the world can actually do all the 3 things skillfully. That is Earning money, Saving money and Investing/Growing money.
- Relationships
A constant which is turning into a dangerous variable that cannot be solved.
Getting in and out of multiple relationships, leads to emptiness and we lose the ability to make deep, secure, long-term connections which are vital to our mental wellbeing.
A lot of time and energy is lost in creating, maintaining and surviving these often shallow relationships amounting to nothing but trauma and regret in the long run while ruining our present too.
- Health
A disgusting trend has recently caught my attention. The rise of 3AM biryanis. People are eating at 3AM in the morning. A whole biryani! Is the collective intelligence of society going down every year?
The medical costs all over the world has increased. Health care cost inflation is one of the highest all over the world and yet people are nonchalant, complacent and ignorant. They take their health for granted.
As the saying goes “A healthy man wants a thousand things, a sick man only wants one”.
We as a human being are still connected and governed by nature. We have to eat when the sun is up and stop eating after sunset. We cannot overwrite this condition even if we are technologically advanced. Eating at ungodly hours, will adversely affect your circadian rhythm which is hazardous in the long term. A fitness/wellness routine will help you maintain your health and turn it into a constant instead of a variable time bomb that might blow up any time.
- Business / Career
The career or business you pick to determines your status, social standing and net-worth.
A mistake in entering a wrong career or setting up the business that is bound to fail can be life changing, which may not be in our best interest..
The city you live in which is a constant has a pivotal role in the decision of this variable.
So a careful, pragmatic thought has to go into every decision for it yield us a holistically positive result and propel us forward in life.
How are variables added in our lives
Introduction of many variables in our life starts after we finish high school where we are presented with multiple options to study further. Then we have to chose a university and a major/degree. We all know the huge number of options and variety of courses we have in today’s world whether it be online or offline (university).
Once the education is completed, we are then introduced to the corporate world through various jobs, specializations and the rat race continues. It further is complicated with professional aspirations and personal ones like getting married, raising kids, buying a property etc..
It is now clear that variables make our lives miserable and directionless.
And if you have read this story until now, you might have already learned the best way to deal with variables in life.

whenever we are presented with a variable situation in life, try to find a constant that will help you anchor yourself for stability, growth and peace of mind.
Now, so we know what variables and constants of our life are but what is the equation of life? Like our math test does everyone get the same question paper and does it contain the same equation to solve?
