Creating a visual with a customized tooltip in Power Bi
In Power BI, Tooltips help us know about additional information about the visual. Power BI allows you to customize tooltips as per the requirement. This blog demonstrates how to create a customized tooltip page and insert the same in the visual
Here are some straight forward steps to get there.
Step 1: Install Power BI desktop using the given link (Downloads | Microsoft Power BI)
Step 2: Open Power bi desktop.
Step 3: Go to get data in home section and choose data source.
Step 4: Choose the required file in the local.
Step 5: After selecting the file, click ‘Transform data’ if the data has to be transformed or ‘Load’ to load the table.
Step 6: After loading the table, design any visual of own for which the tooltip has to be added.
Step 7: Design a dashboard of requirement using the required visuals. The below one can be taken as reference.
Step 8: Go to a new page. In visualizations, go to format visual. Click on the page information, rename the page, and turn on ‘Allow use as tooltip.’
Step 9: Design the tooltip as per the requirement. If necessary, additional information can also be included.
Step 10: In canvas settings, choose custom and fix the height and width of the page and choose the vertical alignment as ‘Top’ or ‘Middle’.
Step 11: Choose the background color in canvas background or set background theme if necessary.
Step 12: Now go to main page. Click on the visual for which the tooltip is to be added. Select format visual and go to general section. Select ‘Options’ and under the ‘Type’ section, change ‘default’ to ‘report page.’
Step 13: In the ‘Page’ section, select the name of the tooltip page and apply the tooltip to the visual.
Step 14: Now when a section is hovered in the visual, it will display the tooltip. Using the same procedure, the tooltip features can be enabled for all the other visuals.
