A trip to the trash dump made me want to write this post

Getting rid of garbage feels so good!

How satisfying is a trip to the dump station? So satisfying! We are remodeling our bedroom and bath — we demolished the 80’s style vanity, tore down a wall, and scraped off the lovely popcorn ceiling today. We made a mess! After a few days of hard work, I hauled a load of destroyed bedroom to the dump. What a magical, but conflicting place, the trash dump.

Demolition day fun (photo via Canva..not the actual author :) )

On one hand I can just open my car and throw anything into the abyss and it’s so satisfying to be able to purge for so few dollars. It almost feels illegal to take a box of plasterboard and chuck it, throw the drawers of the vanity in, take the big mirror cabinet and just hurl it and hear it shatter as it hits — and all of it is just magically “taken care of” by someone else. I’m always on the lookout to see if someone is going to tell me “you can’t toss that” and get thrown out of the dump…but it never happens. Trash hurling bliss ensues.

It took three days to get the room demolished and just five minutes to throw it into the deep pit of garbage satisfaction. I leave feeling a big burden has been lifted, trash never to be seen again. But, on the other hand, it makes me question just where is all of this trash going? How much are we all throwing out each day and where does it all get taken? How much am I…
