Four things that cause our faith to shrink

Christ says four times to his disciples “You of little faith” combined with something they were doing that was causing them to not have faith in that moment. If you take a look at these four things you will see how we all do them, and they are a natural response for humans to what we experience. So why call them out? They are insightful to help us grow in faith because they identify things that cause our faith to shrink, not grow. They are markers of things to avoid, things to be aware of, things to stop doing as they are enemies of growing in faith. Let’s notice the four and what they have in common.

Worry

Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ Matthew 6:30–31 (NKJV)

Worrying about things such as what we will eat or what clothes we will wear takes our eyes off of the fact that an unseen God can provide all we need. Do you not think that the God who spun up all the universe, stars, planets, earth, animals, and plants could not provide what you need in an instant? When we take our eyes off the unseen God and focus on what we see — the lack of food or clothes in front of us at that moment, we weaken our faith in that God.

It’s only natural to worry about the cares of this world, after all they are necessary aren’t they…
