Take the Veil Away

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from 2 Corinthians 3:16, ” Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. “

Background

Do you remember those 3-D posters that were so popular several years ago? They were computer- generated images that, at first glance, looked like just a bunch of colors and shapes all jumbled up on the paper. But the trick to seeing the real image was to supposedly let your eyes go out of focus while staring at it, and then as you would re-focus your stare, the image became clear and visible to you. Sometimes it worked rather well, and other times the image was a little less conspicuous. Now, can you remember reading the Bible and trying to understand what it said before you trusted Jesus as your Savior?

Or what about since you became a believer, trying to figure out something on your own, apart from the Lord’s guidance and direction? Our verse today is talking about the veil that blinds the unbeliever from understanding Jesus as the Savior, even of the Old Testament, and that keeps them from seeing God’s glory in Christ. And we most certainly need God to remove the veil to enable us to see Jesus for who He is. We need Him to open our eyes and heart to receive the message of the Scriptures. But even in your daily walk, there is the need for God to remove the veils that blind us from His purposes.

Application

You might be struggling with a major decision in your life, but until you seek Him and His purposes for you, the veil may keep you from seeing clearly what to do. You might be frustrated by the same hassles and disappointments at home day after day, but until you spend time with God in prayer, the veil may keep blocking you from seeing who or what the real issue is. The key to the situation is turning to the Lord. We did it when we asked Him to save us, and we do it when someone’s life hangs in the balance. But do we walk around with veils over our eyes the remainder of the time? When we turn to Him, the veil is taken away. So turn today, and expect to see what He has there for you.

Charge

As we seek Him today, turn to Jesus in your every situation. Let Him show you what was always there before you. Ask Him to focus your eyes and heart to His purposes and glory.
