What is Your Mission Statement?
Let your personal mission statement become a reality that points you to Jesus.
Scripture
Our verse for today comes from Philippians 3:17, ” Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. “
Background
In our company, as I’m sure it is with yours, we have certain goals that we have set for the year. Among them are increasing our unit sales by 15%, raising gross profit by 18%, reducing receivables older than thirty days to less than 15%, and channeling at least 80% of our sales to a certain type of customer. The overarching principle driving these numbers is to become the First Choice in every market that we serve. And in order to get to First Choice, we eventually established a vision of becoming a ” Top 5 ” company, developing strategic pillars of focus that are intended to elevate our company and its employees to being their absolute best. Now, if you dwell in the corporate world, or have spent some of your work life in this arena, then these terms and ideals may sound quite familiar to you. You know all about mission statements, vision statements, core values, or any of the other types of corporate banners that are intended to help steer your company’s future.
Application
But what is the target that you are using to guide your spiritual future? It is true that in certain areas of our walk with Christ, we know only to take the next step, fully relying on God to reveal our next course of action only once that step has been taken. But in your 2015 life with Jesus, what are you keeping your eyes on that will get you to 2016 where the Lord wants you to be? If you’re not a Type A, goal-setting individual, one who plans things out and monitors results, then you’re probably not striving for anything particular come New Years. You intend on following and worshipping Christ, but the details on becoming more Christ-like are less concrete. But it’s just this type of commitment which can devolve into another year like the less-than-stellar year before, and so on. But it doesn’t have to, even for us Non-Type A’s. There’s still 155 days left in 2015. That’s plenty of time to map out a course and get on your way, His way, to where He wants to take you.
Charge
As we seek Him today, let your personal mission statement become a reality that points you to Jesus.
