Looking after your bike properly — Part 1

Cyclists are passionate and bike maintenance is essential. Let’s look at how it might be if it was the other way around.

Imagine a world where cyclists were essential, and bike maintenance was a passion. The world for cyclists would be a much better place.

Our bikes would last longer, and since we’d be so essential, we might last longer too, especially when it comes to road safety.

Let’s say we want to do that, we want to make ourselves essential and bike maintenance a passion — how would we go about doing it?

Making cyclists essential in the world is probably a tall order for one blog post, but it’s certainly something we hope to change over the next 50 years. In the meantime, let’s look at how we can make ourselves passionate about bicycle maintenance.

Get Good Cycling Accessories

Cycling Accessories can make a huge difference in how much you enjoy cycling. They will also make a huge difference in how much you enjoy maintaining your bike.

If you buy bicycle accessories that you can assemble, and remove from your bike easily, then you will enjoy looking after your bicycle. This is especially true if you follow through to step 3.

The making of every great cyclist has been in the enjoyment of owning a bike, cycling it as much as possible and treating the bicycle as a prized possession.

Invest in Quality Bicycle Parts

When you are considering what bicycle parts to buy, and we know a lot of cyclists do, there will be a lot of questions to answer.

We try to make it a bit easier in partnering with SRAM bicycle components because we feel they provide the best performance and value for money.

So by having a good set of bike parts, a cyclist can enjoy riding their bike because it feels that much better! However, there’s another reason for buying high quality bike parts.

If you have spent your hard earned money on good bike parts, you’re going to want to keep them in good condition and working well. Therefore, it works as a driver to force you into proper bike maintenance so you can get the most out of the bike and also have something to be proud of, because the bicycle is all a result of your hard work.

Learn about your Bicycle

Steps 1 and 2 are only useful if you follow all the way to step 3. Become one with the bike, become a true cyclist and understand everything that is happening with your bicycle.

In doing this, you won’t be afraid to look after your bike as you know the limits to what you can do, and by becoming one with the bicycle, you will know when things don’t feel right, and then you want it to be exactly as it was when you first bought it.

Now you’re on the right path to good bicycle maintenance that keeps your bicycle, cycling accessories, and bicycle parts in good condition. Ultimately, you are rewarded with a bicycle that has a long lifespan and great resale value should you ever decide to sell it on.
