More about the Opportunity

Mobility Hubs will provide convenient and inventive physical spaces at existing Metro Rail stations designed to integrate a suite of mobility services and real-time trip planning information with the regional transit system. The Project will provide innovative and affordable mobility options for Los Angeles commuters with a focus on transit-dependent populations whose origin location or final destination is not conveniently accessible from transit due to distance, terrain, or time of day. The Project Sponsors expect this Project to serve as a pilot that will inform implementation of permanent Mobility Hub locations beyond the scope of this Project.

The Mobility Hubs Project aims to provide individuals with mobility choices to accommodate seamless trips to and from transit to employment, education, and major activity centers. The Project will integrate a suite of on-demand transportation choices at strategic locations to offer convenient connections for new and current transit users. The Project Sponsors, with the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) serving as Lead Project Sponsor, are undertaking this four-year project to create new mobility hubs with first and last mile multimodal transportation options at designated locations near key Metro Rail stations. If proven successful, lessons learned from this demonstration project would inform the growth and expansion of a system of Mobility Hubs throughout the Los Angeles region. The Project is funded by two grant funding sources — a grant from the Federal Transit Administration’s Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) funding program awarded to the Project Sponsors, and a Metro Call for Projects grant awarded to the City of Los Angeles.

The Integrated Mobility Hubs project goals are to

● Bridge the gap between the regional transit system and places of residence, education, or employment of low-income individuals and recipients of government assistance.

● Provide subsidies for low-income individuals and recipients of government assistance to use transportation options.

● Improve connections between transit users and their origin or destination.

● Incentivize a modal shift from traveling using single-occupancy vehicles to more sustainable forms of transportation.

● Integrate a suite of mobility options into the regional transit system that are context-specific to a location or mobility hub site.

● Create spaces that are a representation of the local community that are historically and culturally sensitive to each neighborhood.

● Reduce first and last mile connectivity gaps for transit users.
