That Time I Manifested VIP Passes

“Are you a big Boo Boo fan?”

I had rented my apartment on Airbnb a bazillion times, but this was the first time I had received an email after the fact.

“Yes, I am!” I typed back to Pete. Boo Boo was one of my favorite bands. Pete must have seen the Boo Boo ticket I won a couple of months ago on my fridge.

“That’s awesome. I’m their tour manager. Are you going to see them at Skippy Doo Fest?”

WHAT?! I was 1 degree of separation from my favorite band? What were the chances that the Boo Boo’s tour manager would happen to rent my apartment, and I would happen to have an old ticket on the fridge?

“Yes, I am seeing them at Skippy Doo!” I wrote back.

The next day I received an email from Pete that would change my life forever. “Come find me when you get there. I’ll be standing by stage right. Just ask for me. Tall guy, long hair.”

I tried not to pee on myself. I was DYING! Would we go backstage? Was Pete cute? Was I going to become Penny Lane from Almost Famous?

When we got to Skippy Doo, my friend and I made a beeline for the side of the stage.

“Pete!” I shouted, waving like a complete maniac.

“Rachel!” He leaned in for a hug. OMG, I think I smelled Boo Boo on him. “So nice to meet you. Your apartment was awesome. Here are two VIP passes.”

HOLY SHIT BALLS.

My friend and I watched the entire show from the VIP section, complete with free drinks. And since then, whenever Boo Boo is in town Pete, and I meet up. I once even spent the night listening to Pete and his friends regale me with stories from the road.

I’ve now seen Boo Boo more times than I can count, and each time I get to see them from the best spot in the house. All thanks to a ticket stuck on my fridge and a little magic from the Universe.
