The Comfort Zone Is There for a Reason
I constantly pushed its limits and got sick and burnt out in the process
My therapist gave me full permission to hang out in my comfort zone for the time being. All I have to do now is work on whatever I’ve been doing and resist the urge to push any boundaries.
I’m not going to lie — this is hard for me. I feel like I’ve been stuck with the foot all the way down on the gas pedal for so long that I don’t even remember how else to be.
Stepping out of our comfort zone has been glorified by the self-improvement industry for so long that we’ve come to associate stability, balance or just taking a break from the madness as “playing it small” or being fearful.
People fall for this philosophy — myself included — and push themselves to their limits because embracing discomfort and working hard, as difficult and scary as it may be, is also adrenaline-inducing. And adrenaline is addictive.
