“All space is space in which to create.” — Eric Maisel

Even though we have never met, I owe a lot to Sir John Cleese, of Monty Python fame. His unique ability to be serious and funny — and always thoughtful — seized my attention at a young age. Decades later, his instruction on the subject of creativity was instrumental for me. Not only have I taken and used his advice, I try to share it with others whenever possible.

First among the five factors he encourages us all to manage to make life more creative is space. He advises, “You must make a quiet space for yourself where you will be undisturbed.” Also essential is dedicating a specific period of time there, to allow the growth of original thoughts.

In her words, “Everything you see, touch, smell, or hear contributes to the sense of space — and your sense of space contributes to your creativity.” By clicking here, you can learn more about these five areas as they apply to your creative space:

  • Space you can see
  • Space you can hear
  • Space you can smell
  • Space you can touch
  • Space you can feel
