PROCEED WITH CAUTION: An Epic Ending to the 2016 BB Olympic Games

This week we ended the 2016 BIG BERRY Olympics with a bang that showed why you don’t mess with the powerful ladies at camp! We started the week with a tennis tournament. Our top gals, Ana and Karina, gave their best but Ana came out stronger in the end with her killer backhand.

To get some midweek rest from the sport activities in the camp (and to properly feed our athletes), we threw an international lunch. All the interns from around the world, made their favourite home dish; We served a variety of Vietnamese, Spanish, American and Croatian food. Everyone was satisfied with the choices — from paella, green bean stew, “loaded nachos” and fried rice, there was something for every taste.

After lunch, we all became amateur foodies and decided to explore more local delicacies. For dinner we went to our beloved restaurant Kmetija Zupančić for a dose of fresh grilled trout and carb fish. It was amazing as always, and our local Slovenia guests, Valentina from Fashion.si was just as impressed and equally stuffed.

On Friday some of us took Marcela from Fotostrasse and Natasha Amar from The Boho Chica to Postojna cave, one of the most distinguished natural wonders of Slovenia. The visit lasted about 2–2,5 hours and it included a ride with the electric train, which dropped us off at the bottom of the Great Mountain, the highest point of the cave. From there we went for a walk across the Russian Bridge, through the galleries called Spaghetti hall, the White hall and the Red hall — all of their names owed to the characteristic colour and shape of stalactites and stalagmites found there. It was a truly breath-taking experience that we recommend to all our travellers.

After all the cave hunting, we treated all of camp to our weekly BBQ! This week the camp was housing yet another American, Ryan from San Diego, and he showed us how to play the classic American past-time… beer pong. After enjoying classic ćevapčići, veggies, chicken wings, and mini weiners (all cooked with Zlati Ghee), we pulled out the red cups, lager, and started the beer ponging! The Americans team, Karina and Ryan, won in the end but we’ve continued our training here at camp after they left.

Upon returning it was time for the most exciting 2016 Olympic event at BIG BERRY– the boxing match between our very own Sparky Ana and Karina Jalapeña. After training hard with our coaches Janko and Daniel, we were all very curious how the match would unfold. When we arrived to Gym Direct, it seemed like half of Metlika had arrived to support our girls (and the local guys who had a match following them).
