The Interview: MSF & SkuVault

Halie Adams, Senior Agency Enablement Manager at BigCommerce, sat down with Diana Nolting, VP of Product at SkuVault, to discuss SkuVault’s experience with Multi-Storefront.

Is your app currently designated as Multi-Storefront compatible &/or optimized?

Yes, we are MSF Optimized.

Why did you decide to update your apps to be MSF optimized?

When we’re looking at what we can really prioritize…we try to make sure we’re slotting things at the right time of the year to make the biggest impact for our clients… We recognized where BC is headed with this and what it’s going to enable the clients to do and recognizing BC and our client bases overlapping so well, we wanted to be there early so we didn’t have clients waiting for us [to optimize].

When it comes to inventory, and us being the inventory source of truth for [our customers], it matters that we’re working with all your storefronts! So that was really important to us to really serve our clients and be there before they needed us to be. We wanted to be where the puck was headed, not where it was coming from.

How was that process? How much time did it take?

It was faster than we expected. We had a new team assigned to it that doesn’t traditionally work on BigCommerce, so that was great too, that they were able to get up to speed and your team was so helpful. I believe it was 6 weeks total…from start to finish.

Is that considered a light lift for your team?

Yeah, because that was 3 sprints basically, and that’s not the only thing they were working on [during] that time. Working with your team answered a lot of the questions that were coming through. Because we needed to understand what was going to change and how it was going to be different and be ready to retro-fit all of the existing clients that were there.

So, when we were looking at that, your teams answered a ton of our questions and our teams worked really closely together across Google Docs. We got incredibly fast responses that allowed us to move faster and test faster. It was one of the fastest brand new initiatives we’ve done in a while.

Did the team attend any of the MSF Enablement Hours?

Yes! We had developers, a business analyst, project managers and our partnership teams took advantage of various office hours offerings.

What about them was helpful or not?

They were helpful to understand at a high level but the biggest return was your developers and product people answering really specific questions that were really in the weeds.

Did you use any of the documentation? What were the least/most helpful?

Yes! The team used the documentation heavily, especially when planning the original tickets.

Were you asked by clients to update to support MSF?

We had a couple clients ask around about it, but they weren’t ready to make the shift. We haven’t had anybody come in new, I think it would be a really interesting conversation to have once the existing clients can start leveraging it as well.

What would you say to another partner who is considering updating their apps to be MSF compatible &/or optimized?

Yeah! Just leverage the resources on [the BigCommerce] team! Because, your team helped us not have to make a lot of assumptions, which isn’t always the case. Your team quickly answered our team’s questions and allowed us to move forward faster.

I think a lot of the buffer time we tend to build in for waiting for responses meant that we could move faster and could get faster responses. I think we were able to move faster because your team was so responsive and available to help us troubleshoot and come at it with a solutions-oriented approach. We’re just eager and ready for the next phase!
