Our BigCommerce Developer Relations team, along with our partners from Stripe, are thrilled to announce the Stripe X BigCommerce Omnichannel hackathon, kicking off March 27th!

Let’s talk details!

This hackathon kicks off on Monday, March 27, and runs through Wednesday, April 5. This hackathon will be entirely virtual, which means teams and individuals from all over the world are eligible to participate.

We’ll be hosting speakers from both Stripe and BigCommerce to talk about relevant technologies, hackathon strategies, successful solutions in our respective ecosystems, and more! Over the weeks leading up to the hackathon, we will update our schedule of events found on the hackathon information page.

Subject matter experts from both orgs will be available to help with any major hurdles, and you’ll have access to a Slack channel dedicated to the hackathon where you can connect with your peers, ask questions, learn about others’ solutions, and more!

What are we hacking on?

In this hackathon, developers will focus on Omnichannel solutions! More specifically, the prompt for this hackathon is:

The Stripe X BigCommerce Omnichannel Hackathon will be a competition in innovation, creativity, and delivering top-tier developer experience on a tight timeline! Using APIs and products from both BigCommerce and Stripe, you’ll build solutions, enhance existing products, or something in between to win cash prizes!

If that prompt feels a little vague, that is by design. Because we’re announcing this event a few weeks in advance and there are big cash prizes on the line, we’re going to wait until closer to the event to release more specifics.

All registrants will receive a BigCommerce Hack Pack — a collection of documents that will help ensure your success — which will include much more information about expectations, requirements, and resources to help you build the best solution possible!

Why are we doing a hackathon?

Well, for starters, hackathons are fun! We love putting on events like this to connect with our community and provide an avenue for developers to get creative and create solutions that improve our entire ecosystem.

This hackathon also gives our community a chance to dive in on and learn more about both Stripe and BigCommerce’s ecosystems! This is great for developers who want to sharpen the tools in their tool belt and even possibly get recognized for an excellent solution.

Did you say prizes?

You heard that right! We have $10,000(USD) in prizes to award to winning teams! Specific prizes will be included in your Hack Pack, but there are two main tracks for hackathon submission awards:

  1. Experience Track
  2. Innovation Track

We hope to get innovative solutions and solutions that have a major emphasis on developer experience. We believe those are the most fun elements in hackathons to focus on and two of the most important things for developers to always keep in mind when building any solution for either (or both) of our platforms!

Stripe and BigCommerce both encourage developers to push our platforms to the next level and always keep in mind how important developer experience is. We so look forward to reviewing your submissions in a few weeks!

I’m interested! What’s next?

To register for the hackathon, visit our hackathon information page!

After you register, you’ll receive instructions to apply for our Developer Slack space and an email within a few days outlining any updates to our agenda and what to expect from the hackathon.

If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to me (Katie Hoesley) or Heather Barr in DevSlack, or send an email to our developer relations team!

Let’s hack!

Disclaimer: The official rules for this hackathon will be part of the Hackathon Packet that will be distributed to all hackers prior to the hackathon kickoff on or before March 27th and I’ll be required to agree to those rules to participate in this contest.
