Welcome to the monthly recap of BigCommerce product news and updates. Each month, we’re sharing all the changes and updates available to merchant’s stores on BigCommerce. Whether you’re an agency partner building and managing an e-commerce site, a freelance developer customizing the BigCommerce storefront, or an app developer wanting to keep on top of natively built features, this your chance to stay in the loop and learn what changes are happening to the BigCommerce platform.

With the 2020 EOY release-freeze coming to an end, it’s time we get back to the grind on developing ideas, feature requests, new beta programs & bug fixes. January kept us busy, as we started the year productive and inviting, releasing some new big items as well as opening a few betas. Check out our January feature releases and updates below.

BigCommerce Platform Updates, December 2020

  • Coming Soon: Buy Online Pickup In-Store (BOPIS): Developed by Randem Retail, this app has been designed to specifically enable small business merchants who sell online and across 1–10 physical locations. Having a ‘buy online pick up in store’ option allows retailers to blend the online and in-store experience to engage with customers while offering a more convenient way to shop.
  • Coming Soon: Improved Error Messages at Checkout: Updated error messages will allow merchants and their customers to understand issues at checkout, if they were to occur. As a note, although the update will apply to stores automatically, store owners will need to update their translations. To see a full list of the new error messages, check out the Product Blog!
  • Beta: Bolt Fraud Protection: If you’re interested in decreasing fraudulent transactions that happen through your store, check out the requirements and apply to join us in this new beta. This beta with the new Bolt payment gateway is geared towards businesses processing over $1M in online revenue. Key benefits to using Bolt Fraud Protection are; 100% fraud chargeback guarantee, the ability to maximize order approval rate, and the quick and easy integration with top payment service providers. To top it all off, Bolt Fraud Protection works seamlessly alongside BigCommerce — meaning you’re able to get up and running in a matter of days!
  • Beta: Barclaycard Fuse Payment Gateway: The Barclaycard Pure payment gateway is geared towards small to medium-sized businesses. Getting started with this gateway expedites your selling process and allows you to start accepting payments within minutes & offers next day settlement for transactions processed before 9 pm GMT.
  • Beta: Checkout.com Fraud Manual: Checkout.com is offering another option for BigCommerce merchants that are interested in decreasing fraudulent transactions. This beta will be testing the “flagged payments” feature on the Checkout.com payment gateway, which allows merchants to manually review transactions that Checkout.com has flagged as potentially fraudulent.
  • New: Contextual Filters(faceted search): This update to Product Filtering (also known as faceted search) makes it so individual BigCommerce categories can now be configured to have their own set of unique filters or use your store’s global/storewide filters. You can customize which filters are shown for specific categories and they can be based on product attributes like price range, color, and size. The possibilities are endless as you have the ability to add up to 12 filters per category!
  • New: Facebook Integration: We have rolled out a new and improved unified Facebook integration that consolidates all Facebook channels (Facebook and Instagram Pages, Shops, and checkout capabilities) into one faster and more reliable experience. This new integration allows merchants to enable checkout on Instagram (US-only) & offers a more seamless technical support for selling on Facebook/Instagram.
