Welcome to a recap of what’s trending in the BigCommerce Developer Community. Every other week, we’ll take a look at the discussions happening. You’ll see our most popular and insightful conversations, along with questions that could use your expertise or helpful advice.

This week, the BigCommerce Developer Community discussed setting up a Java environment for the BigCommerce API, Handlebars to add a custom page, and the importance of context when it comes to Stencil objects. We also saw requests for recommendations on using the Checkout SDK to add a header image, and increasing a theme setting’s max_length property.

Can’t Miss Conversations

  • Chandini Shaik is getting started with using the BigCommerce API and is familiar with Java. Unfamiliar with JSON responses, Chandini seeks a resource for programmatically making API calls to BigCommerce with Java. Learn more about the context of our APIs and Java in the Community.
  • Andrew Hobson found that when using Handlebars Helpers and custom fields, custom pages don’t appear. Learn more about using custom fields to display a custom page in the Community.
  • Anthony M noticed adding category images to the search page is causing no change due to the page’s context. This is preventing the category image URL from being available for use, and Anthony would like to display category images on the search page. We discover why this is related to Stencil Objects in the Community.

Share a Solution

  • David Ndlovu is working with the Checkout SDK to add a custom header image. Using a custom page doesn’t provide the checkout context, and David is unsure where to turn next. Join the conversation and share your solution in the Community.
  • Uday Repaka hasn’t found a way to increase the max_length property of strings for the theme editor using schema.json. Have you found a way to set this manually? Join the conversation and share your workaround in the Community.
