Do yourself a favor, stop being an asshole.

If you asked me what is the meaning of “asshole”, it will be a term to label someone who is mean, selfish and one who makes themselves feel big by making others feel small.

Kanye West at the Grammys.

The person who parks in handicapped parking spaces without a permit.

A person that shames you in front of your peers for no prime of reason.

The list goes on.

According to Vocabulary.com, an asshole is someone that is not pleasant or agreeable and probably do things that are not just stupid and annoying, but mean.

Being an asshole creates a lot of tension among those around you. You will stand out as a person people learn to be cautious of and avoid. It creates a snowballing effect of hostility and conflict around you, which eventually will make things hard for you in ways you may not even recognized. The people you offended may even actively try to get back at you by making your life difficult.

As the saying goes:

“The bridges you burn today might just be the bridge you need tomorrow”.

In Feb 2015, an impatient man told a fellow passenger on a busy train to f*** himself. Later that day, the impatient man arrived at a job interview to find that the fellow passenger he scolded was the head of recruitment. The head of recruitment then shared the awkward incident on twitter.

In 2015 November, NUS U@live dialogue featuring Ms Elim Chew, the founder of 77th street shared a meaningful story:
“‪I was going to an event at Europe. Missing a flight, will be chaotic, you will have to rearrange your transit and your trains. I arrived late at the airport gate and I thought I am going to miss my flight. Suddenly some airport personnel come up and opens up the door. The airport personnel actually remembered me because I pierced his ear 10 years ago. If I were to treat this person badly previously, he will have never opened the door for me. The morale of the story is you never know who will be there at the time you need most. ”

Everyone you meet have a potential to play a role in your life or even in times of trouble.

So do yourself a favor, stop being an asshole.

Please ❤ it, so others can read it too!
