TBP Writing Prompt Highlights, Vol. 1: Where Would You Drive?
A few weeks ago, we posted our first writing prompt and asked readers: If you got in your car and just started driving, where is the first place you’d go? Here are parts of our favorite responses, which collectively tell a story about how some destinations aren’t really places.
I would drive north to Seattle and spend days on end in a three-story bookstore, enjoying the overcast weather — a city that feels as much like a book as books do. -Seven Deadly Cynics
I would go on the highway and drive where it took me.
No destination, no target.
Why?
Because there is no place I specifically want to end up in. -Hasmik Antonyan
Humans don’t connect to places. They reflect them. And the truth is we all know where we’re ultimately going. -Elizabeth Michael
If I were to get in a car and start driving, I will drive till my arms ache and my back hurts and my feet tingle with exhaustion. I won’t stop because what I am looking for is somewhere on the road and not a destination. -Zohra Fatima
Guess I should get out of bed and drive to work, though. -alex laughnan
