Surfing the tsunami of big data…

I recently spoke about the tsunami of big data at the Bay Area Analytics Meetup at Galvanize in San Francisco, CA and enjoyed some great dumplings and data science.

Here are some amazing takeaways about big data and why it’s a BIG DEAL…

  1. “From 2013 to 2020, the digital universe will grow by a factor of 10 — from 4.4 trillion gigabytes to 44 trillion. It more than doubles every two years.” — EMC Digital Universe study, 2014
  2. “Today, if a byte of data were a gallon of water, in only 10 seconds there would be enough data to fill an average house. In 2020, it will only take 2 seconds.” — EMC Digital Universe study, 2014
  3. Ninety percent of the world’s data has been created in the last two years… The ultimate question is really what insight and value can we draw from that data.” — George Lee, Chief Information Officer, Investment Banking Division, Goldman Sachs
