It has over 400,000 users, and the average user uses the application once a week for an hour. Power users spend 20–30 hours a week using Bigscreen. Popular use cases of Bigscreen include watching movies and TV shows, playing videogames, and hanging out socially in virtual environments.

What are the requirements?

While Bigscreen is available internationally, the Stargate Origins screening is only available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia.

While Bigscreen supports Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10, due to technical streaming limitations, the screening will only work on Windows 10 PCs. A supported VR headset is also required.

What VR headsets are supported?

Bigscreen is available on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, all SteamVR-compatible headsets, and all Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Download Bigscreen for free from the Oculus Store, Steam Store, or the Microsoft Store.

How do you invite friends and watch a movie together?

If you want coordinate with friends before joining, make a Bigscreen room of your own using your Tablet. Tap the “Invite your friends” button and share the room code with a friend to invite them.

Will Bigscreen and future movie nights be available on mobile devices?

Bigscreen will be launching a mobile version in Q2 2018 that supports mobile virtual reality headsets such as the Samsung GearVR, Google Daydream, and Oculus Go.

Will this be viewable after the event?

This Stargate Origins screening is only viewable at specific showtimes starting every 30 minutes on the scheduled event days. Outside of the event, people can get a video on demand (VOD) experience by using Bigscreen to view their own videos or browse video content in web browsers and Internet streaming services. People can sign up for Stargate Command and watch all Stargate Origins episodes in Bigscreen in their VR headset at anytime.

How is this different from Bigscreen today?

Today, Bigscreen allows users to stream their desktop to friends, like Skype screensharing in VR. This enables people to hang out and watch a movie together, or watch their favorite sports game.

By partnering with studios like MGM and Paramount Pictures, Bigscreen is curating movie nights and bringing in 2D & 3D movies into a social virtual reality movie theater. 3D movies, in particular, are great at the movie theater but at home require a compatible TV and aren’t available on streaming services.

Think of Bigscreen events as going to a concert or music festival, instead of listening to music on-demand on Spotify.

How much will movie screenings cost?

The Stargate Origins screening will be viewable for free for users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia. We are developing a regular, weekly content schedule in 2018 with both paid and free screenings of movies, TV shows, and video content.
