The ushering in of a new year inevitably prompts moments of reflection and planning, and here at Big Tomorrow things are no different. As 2017 begins, we’re taking the opportunity to learn from our successes and failures and lay the foundation for our best year yet.

We founded Big Tomorrow three years ago with a simple, fundamental belief: impact is everything. With our focus on enabling connected, personal, seamless, and adaptive products and services, we’ve helped a diverse set of partners share knowledge, improve health, and inspire imagination by building experiences that empower people to live their best lives.

What have we been up to?

Expanding horizons and learning, learning, learning.
We grew and learned a lot in 2016. Ever more exciting projects led us to double the size of our team and, recognizing that being packed in like sardines isn’t conducive to creativity, we moved locations and doubled our square footage as well. To better support our partners through the tricky process of planning, building and evolving new products and services, we expanded our Product Management capabilities. To address the growing need for outcome-based solutions, we adapted our approach to include measurement advisory that links design decisions to data outcomes. We’re now a more diverse and smarter organization, with the proven ability to bring deeper, broader and more effective products and services to the world.

What excites us?

The creation of ever-evolving ecosystems
Defining how emergent technologies and intelligent ecosystems might better serve, improve and connect the human experience is a big part of the challenges we’ve tackled in the last year. We partnered with clients to explore a variety of technologies and their impact on individuals and ecosystems, including how AI can keep surgery patients on a personalized path to recovery, how drones can help farmers save time surveying crops, and how personalized, lifelong learning can improve everyone’s future. Each experience was designed to bring people together, to create support networks and better the human experience — leaving us hopeful of technology’s ability to mediate and guide, rather than control and force.

A focus on the future
We feel it’s important to acknowledge that, as designers and makers, the world we create is not ours alone. Both the positive elements, and unintended negative side-effects, will be inherited by generations that follow ours. That said, we are excited to share a new focus area designing for the thinkers and doers of tomorrow: our kids. From work with Disney and Age of Learning to 826 Valencia and Head Start, we’re working to build a world of opportunities and wonder for the youngest among us.

Our next act? Transforming pediatric health experiences for kids and the people who love and care for them.

From running workshops to designing events and best practices, we’re proud to be working with the National Head Start Association, helping them evolve their offering and to serve their populations more effectively.

A belief in the power of the collective
We believe in a collaborative, partner-based approach to solving complex problems. As such, we designed our company explicitly to support initiatives that serve multiple user roles and integrate diverse organizations and technology solutions. We spent 2016 engaging new partners, sharing our stories and fostering conversations on the future of design.

Our greatest moments
Here at Big Tomorrow, we measure success by our ability to affect people in positive ways. How are we doing? In 2016, 82% of our clients requested additional work, 70% sought to transform healthcare and education, and more than 50% will launch a new product or service in 2017. Along the way, we built a new digital prototype every two weeks. We’re proud of our work, our team, and excited to see where this journey takes us.

Seeing is believing. Check out some of our recent work:

  • Clarify Health Solutions — Digital care guidance system that seamlessly integrates powerful analytics, artificial intelligence, real-time patient navigation and smart workflows.

  • UTx — University of Texas System led initiatives to develop future models of education and technology to make learning flexible, personalized, and data-driven.
