SXSW is just around the corner. Literally. As experience designers, and seasoned SXSWers, we want to share some of the conversations we’ve been having around this iconic conference and help you get the most out of it.

With our deep experience in healthcare and education, the team at Big Tomorrow has been talking with legends, locals and rising stars in these industries to hear about their latest endeavors, what they are excited about, and what they plan to seek out at SXSW. We hope you’ll tune in, and weigh in. We’d love to hear your recommendations in the comments below.

BT’s SXSW Travel Tips

There’s a wealth of great content to take in at SXSW, only a few days to do it, and enough options for extracurricular activities to make your head spin.

To kick things offs, we asked our own BTers and other SXSW veterans for their best advice on planning your experience. Here’s what we heard.

Have a game plan, but be flexible enough to break it.
There are a lot of scheduled activities but with so many attendees, be open to impromptu opportunities.

Start following SXSW stuff on Twitter to stay in the know.
Follow speakers who are presenting, and download the EventBrite and SXSW apps to use while you’re there.

Get the word out and set up some meetings!
Networking opportunities abound at SXSW. Make plans ahead of your trip and take advantage of everyone being in the same place at the same time.

Get your admission badge early, but don’t overdo it. Give yourself time to recharge.
Some folks tend to buy more than they use. Buy what you need, and be realistic with your schedule. Give your brain and body some downtime.

There’s no uber or Lyft in Austin. Be ready to think on your feet.
Ride Austin and Fasten are two new players in the ride game. But they are new, so set your expectations accordingly. Better yet, walk or bike.

Save some bucks by flying into San Antonio and driving.
Also consider staying in South Austin and driving to the conference. Parking is available.

There’s a lot of ground to cover, so dress casual. Plan for light rain. Be comfortable walking.
Think layers. You’ll be both inside and outside a lot.

Phone. Phone charger. Sunglasses. Water. Business Cards. Go!
These are your essentials for the long days ahead. Don’t leave home/hotel without them.
