Philosophy & Psychology
--
The earliest philosophers were in fact exploring the human psyche, and psychology as an academic field in the modern sense emerged from philosophy. With the invention of psychoanalysis and psychological experiments, our understanding of animal and human psychology expanded vastly. With the invention brain scans and other ways of exploring what goes on in our brains, neural science is becoming an instrument for monitoring and manipulating our emotions, behavioral patterns, and psyche.
It is about high time that we start applying philosophy and ethics to how we study and manipulate humans and our psychology. In order for us to have qualified conversations about ethics, philosophy, psychology, the human brain, and our psyche, we most certainly need bildung.
Because psychology emerged from philosophy, and because we need philosophy to help us find out what to do about ourselves, our psychology, and the field of neuroscience, they share an entry on this bildung blog: https://medium.com/bildung.
