The Yankees and my family (Part II)

- My brother and my uncle said yesterday they wouldn’t want the Yankees to sign Bryce Harper; they think he’s too much of a diva. I disagree, but didn’t make too much of an argument.
- I don’t think they’ll sign either Harper or Manny Machado, but if they sign one of them, I think it’ll be Machado. Unless Gleyber Torres fully makes the position his own next year, third base will be more in flux than the outfield.
- We’re sort of OK with Chase Headley playing first, especially if he’s in one of his good streaks (which he is now).
- We’re sort of divided on Sonny Gray. I’d hesitate trading anyone good for him, given his injury history.
- My uncle worshipped Mickey Mantle, and told the story of he and a family friend not able to concentrate on their meal after Mantle sat at an adjoining table in a New York City restaurant. After the meal, they were faced with an existential question — follow him into the bathroom or not? (My uncle didn’t; his friend did.)
- I absolutely would follow Don Mattingly into the bathroom.
- My uncle is such a Mantle fan that his car’s vanity license plate is a tribute. The bad side of that is he’d believe the “Clint Frazier asked for No. 7" story even if Suzyn Waldman personally told him the story she helped spread wasn’t true.
- You’d be shocked to hear he’s not a fan of Frazier, that he doesn’t fit “the Yankee way.” He’s a bit cocky, but as long as it never gets worse than that, I like the little bit of edge he brings. They can’t all be milk-drinkers.
- The Yankees won on a walkoff.
- No softball was played.
