The Incline hires reporter/curator MJ Slaby

The Incline welcomes its second reporter/curator ahead of an end-of-summer launch.

MJ Slaby covers education at the Knoxville News Sentinel, a beat she also tackled at The Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind.; and the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal & Courier.

She extensively reported on a sexual assault lawsuit against the University of Tennessee, uncovering calls between the UT football coach and Knoxville police chief on the day two players were accused of rape and the $3 million settlement cost for the university.

The Indiana University alumna has also covered crime, features, general assignments, health, and arts and entertainment.

What you can expect from her in Pittsburgh: Dedicated and dogged reporting and an ability to seamlessly tackle wide-ranging beats and story formats.

“Leaving Knoxville will be tough, but The Incline is a great new adventure for me,” MJ said.

“I love Billy Penn’s approach that brings local journalism to a platform that readers want and tells the untold and quirky stories of the city, as well as dives deeper into the issues. And I can’t wait to be a part of the team that brings the same approach to Pittsburgh.

“Plus, I’m ready to explore the city and eat pierogi until my heart’s content.”

MJ plans to live in the South Side with her boyfriend, a fellow journalist, and a sassy tabby cat. Follow her on Twitter, and send her story ideas to mj@theincline.com.

The Incline announced its first reporter/curator hire, Sarah Anne Hughes, a week ago.
