#BUIDLers Season 1: Project 7 of 8 (Akio Labs)
In this series, we’re thrilled to reveal our eight Binance Labs Incubation Program Season 1 teams and their projects. Learn about Akio Labs below and in this video.
Akio Labs
- Location: San Francisco, USA
- Founders: Mark Miyashita, Wonjun Jeong
- Team: 2 full time
In your words, what is Akio Labs?
Akio Labs is the easiest way for blockchain companies to understand users. Successful companies today make it a top priority to understand everything about their users — we make this super simple for blockchain companies. We have customers using Akio to analyze full user profiles, pull smart contract events into their infrastructure, and answer key business questions.
Tell us about your founders. What is their story?
Akio Labs is founded by Mark Miyashita and Wonjun Jeong.
- Mark was previously a software engineer at Yelp and Asana where he worked on the mobile apps and building data pipelines to process mobile app user events. He also founded an ed-tech company which he worked on for 3 years.
- Wonjun was previously a software engineer at Pinterest where he helped lead research and development of new ads auction designs and algorithms. Prior to that, he worked on data engineering and infrastructure at both Pinterest and Facebook.
What makes your project unique?
Before we started Akio, we talked to over 50+ projects in the space and asked them what their biggest problems were. These early relationships have blossomed and allowed us to get rapid feedback from many respected project teams in the space — some of which became our early customers. Early customer development coupled with our strong data engineering backgrounds from companies like Pinterest make us a strong duo to solve this problem.
What are your major achievements and status updates?
We have several paying customers and additional letters of intent from several project teams and venture funds who want to use Akio to get insights into project-specific data.
We recently released a client side SDK and have onboarded several teams already. It unlocks a new world where on-chain (blockchain events) and off-chain (client events) are automatically merged together into a full user profile. If you’re a project team and would like to better understand your users, contact us at team@akiolabs.com to get started on our free tier.
What are your plans for the first half of 2019?
We’re rapidly onboarding new teams to our client side SDK to track web events which also leads into our entire platform of on-chain analytics. We are working closely with these new teams to build the most complete user profile so that they can answer key business questions about their users.
How was the Binance Labs Incubation Program?
The Binance Labs Incubation Program was very helpful for us, especially because we’re a B2B company. The Labs team introduced us to several potential customers and venture funds and through these conversations, we were able to iterate on our product very quickly.
