Today, we are very excited to announce the Binance Labs Fellowship, an initiative to support open source development of the blockchain stack. We hope that this program will play a meaningful role in growing a healthy and thriving ecosystem.

For those of you who are not familiar with Binance Labs, we are the venture arm of Binance.com. In parallel with the mission of Binance to bring the freedom of money into every corner of the world, one of Binance Labs’ objectives is to foster a growing and vibrant blockchain ecosystem.

As someone who has lived in Silicon Valley for a while, I have seen how innovation depends on an engaged community of developers and entrepreneurs that imagine ideas and create new projects to bring products to market. The more talent an industry attracts to the space, the higher chance that it will be successful.

In the crypto space, we are still waiting for killer apps that would get mass adoption. We believe that to uncover these use-cases, the ecosystem has to create building blocks that could be quickly and easily assembled into products that can be brought to market. A blockchain entrepreneur should be able to easily build a product from an idea, bring it to market and iterate on features until it attains sustainable growth.

For that to happen, we need more crypto-related SDKs, libraries, UI kits, services etc. that could help bring more products and services to market. However, a lot of these projects may not necessarily have sustainable business models that could fund their development. Nevertheless, they are critically important in getting the crypto industry over the hump, and they are best structured as free and open-source projects.

This is the reason why we started the fellowship program. We want to do our part in supporting free and open-source building blocks of the blockchain stack.

For developers or researchers interested in applying to the fellowship, please fill out an application at BinanceFellowship.com.

Also, we would love to work with other like-minded organizations in the crypto space, if this is something that resonates with you. Please reach out to us.
